In a recent Washington Post article, C. Davenport reports on the recent deaths caused by tractor-trailers on Interstate 81. The interstate highway has become a magnet for trucks and the Washington Post reports that I-81 has more than twice as many fatalities for crashes as that on I-95, a more heavily traveled road in Virginia. Apparently the state cannot afford any solutions to this safety problem, rejecting an idea to build a parallel highway for trucks only or widening the road from two lanes in each direction to four.
